5000 kilometre endurance milestone for Lorna and Marco

Scottish Endurance rider Lorna Hogg had cause for celebration last weekend when together with her long term partner, 19 year old De Marco (Marco), she achieved the 5,000km of endurance competitions milestone. Riding at her last area competition of the season Lorna walked, trotted and cantered her 15.2hh Thoroughbred x Welsh into the Scottish Endurance history books at none other than the Balmoral Estate fixture. The ride started from the manicured ground, through some parkland and out onto the sporting estate surrounding the Royal Family’s Scottish residence. The ride was just 15km but the crucial 15km required to reach the 5000 mark. Following Marco’s post ride vet check, the pair were officially recognised as having reached this impressive milestone, an achievement which will be recognised with the presentation of the 5,000km Award at the end of year Scottish Endurance Riding Club’s AGM. But on the day, the achievement was celebrated with a special Marco 5,000km cake made by Lorna’s mum! BHS advice on using off-road gates A short, informative and easily accessible video has been released by The British Horse Society (BHS) advising riders on how to use a gate when riding off-road. The video is available on the British Horse Society’s YouTube channel.
More than 90 incidents involving horse and riders have been reported to the BHS since November 2010, although the Society believes there have been many more that riders have not reported. Gates are a common obstacle for horse owners to negotiate, due to their use in controlling stock and dividing boundaries. The video demonstrates the key principles of how to safely open, while

of being able to ride around such a special place and enjoy some of what has to be not just Scotland’s but the world’s most breath-taking scenery cannot be overstated. We were, quite literally, parked on the Queen’s front lawn. The views from the venue and the venue itself were absolutely beautiful, the trees were in full autumn colours and the tops of the hills in the distance were sprinkled with snow. “ In congratulating Lorna, Petplan Equine marketing executive Kate Hopkins said: “Lorna has had her ups and downs this year, having sustained an injury at the Golden Horseshoe Ride. Despite this she has continued to be a fabulous ambassador for both her sport and for Petplan Equine and we are delighted she and Marco have ended the season on such a high note – congratulations to them both!”
