competition news 2016 BE fixtures list goes live
The 2016 British Eventing fixtures list boasts some exciting new opportunities for event riders and along with many popular events at stunning venues around the country.
Commenting just after its release, BE Chief Executive David Holmes commented: “We are delighted to welcome back many of the new initiatives which were launched in 2015 season, namely the TopSpec Corinthian Cup Challenge at the Festival of British Eventing, the Kent & Masters Arena Eventing Championships, as well as the Mitsubishi Motors Cup, which takes over from the Mitsubishi Motors Grassroots Championship at Badminton. “The Fixtures Team and Regional Coordinators have been working hard this season to maintain the number of competition opportunities around the country as well as introducing a wealth of new events.
“Whilst we have sadly lost several long-standing horse trials, it is testament to the growth in the sport that we have a healthy number of venues regularly knocking at our door to host events. Thank you to all organisers for your huge efforts in running British Eventing affiliated fixtures both old and new.”
New fixtures in 2016 include: Forgandenny Horse Trials in Fife will be running classes at BE80(T), BE90 and BE100 level. The event’s Organiser is BE Scotland Chairman Douglas Edward who said of this new venue: “This is a very well placed venue, right in the middle of Central Scotland. We will be offering competitors in the early season a nice, flowing and inviting track for all levels of grassroots competition.”
Dupplin in Perthshire also has BE80(T) - BE100 level classes on offer. The cross country
course will be made from a variety of materials readily available from the Estate’s parkland. This event is also organised by Douglas Edward who is joint Organiser with Robert McFadzean, both of whom are also BE Technical Advisors.
Already hosting British Showjumping affiliated competitions, Speetly Equestrian Centre (Derbyshire) will now be holding BE Affiliated competitions too. Theinaugural event will be running at BE80(T), BE90 and BE100 levels.
Horseheath in Cambridgeshire is known to many as a popular Point to Point course as well as the host of the Gosling Cup. The event is being overseen by Tim Barling and land owner Tim Vestey with a brand new cross country course designed by Tina Ure of Ely Equestrian. The hosts are opening up new land for the horse trials which will
offer BE80(T), BE90 and BE100 classes.
Offchurch Bury, Warwickshire (BE80/BE90/BE100) will be running in place of Purston Manor. The Organiser is Lloyd Hunt who has built cross country courses at Solihull; he is also a recipient of the Bill Thomson Course Design bursary. This fixture was formerly a BE venue many years ago.
Farley Hall returns for a third year with added Intermediate sections to help replace the competition opportunities lost following the cancellation of Salperton whilst Frickley Park (1) becomes the new home of the BEu18 Regional Championships. These will run at BE100 and CCI1* level.

Trophies unveiled for new Mitubishi Motors Cup
The trophies have been unveiled for the Mitsubishi Motors Cup, the eventing championship offering amateur riders the chance to compete for honours, just ahead of the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials held in May.
The Mitsubishi Motors Cup, which takes over from the Mitsubishi Motors Grassroots Championship, will build on the success of the previous championship by adding value to the experience for those taking part, increasing the level of sponsor engagement and raising the overall profile of the regional programme and finals. Lance Bradley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: ‘The trophies look magnificent and it’s great to see them. The competition has been operating very successfully for a number of years but that shouldn’t stop you making it better. More prestigious trophies and prizes and the change of name raises the profile of what is already a fantastic competition and takes it to the next level. There’s nobody who wouldn’t want to win one of these trophies and they make it even more prestigious than it was to start with.’

The Mitsubishi Motors Cup is the one of the National Championships in the British Eventing calendar. British Eventing (BE) is the governing body for the sport of eventing in Great Britain. Eventing is a unique combination of dressage, cross country over fixed fences and show jumping in one exciting activity. There are two levels of competition: BE90 and BE100 – jumping over 0.9m - and 1.0m - high fences. The winners of each Mitsubishi Motors Cup classification receive a new Mitsubishi Shogun vehicle for a year, prize money, trophy and commemorative plaque to keep. Other support includes the use of VIP facilities at the finals, access to professional advice and equipment and branded merchandise.
Norton Disney Horse Trials in Lincolnshire, which took place (24 – 25th October, was the last competition in this year’s Mitsubishi Motors Cup Regional Final qualifying series which runs annually from July to October. British Eventing has now confirmed the list of riders and their equine partners who have qualified for the competition at Badminton in May 2016.
British Eventing Chief Executive David Holmes said: “What Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has done to this competition is fantastic. For a lot of people, coming to Badminton and taking part in the Mitsubishi Motors Cup is their Olympic Games. To be able to win a trophy like this and the other prizes on offer is fantastic. Badminton is such an iconic location and we are so glad to develop this into such a phenomenal competition.” Hugh Thomas, Director of
Badminton Horse Trials, added: “We never guessed the extraordinary interest all around the country that this competition would generate. To ride here in these finals has become the aim of every amateur rider in the country. The interest in the competition has grown over the years. The trophies and all the other benefits of winning the Mitsubishi Motors Cup emphasise how hugely important it is to win this competition.”
