quick, but is it? The cover image is from one of my little hum- ming bird friends who fi nally held still long enough for me to capture her quick movements off of the feeder we have on our back patio area. It has taken all summer to get close enough to even touch her tail, which I did incidentally. I actually snuck

birds that frequent our house seem to all be fi ghting vigor- ously before they move south. We’ve discovered they are called Ruby-throated Hum- mingbirds (Archilochus colu- bris) - Rare vagrants. The male has a ruby-red throat, a white collar, an emerald green back and a forked tail. The female has a green back and tail feath- ers that are banded white, black and grey-green. Non-the-less, we’ve built this trust between us. She knows I will always give food and that I wont harm her. The males are quite dif- ferent, and don’t trust as much for the most part. male in particular that waits for only his female to land. He chases everyone else off. A humming bird moves quickly and deliberately ...con- stantly. But as human, we can slow down....take the time...by choice. We have a pretty good idea

who reads us, but we know there are a lot of people who read us that have thoughts, ideas and much more. We hope that what people describe as the very fast pace of life’s exis- tence can slow down for a few moments to send 50, 100 or maybe even 200 words...even if it’s their favorite joke or fact! It may take a issue or two for us put it in, but we will! Another thing we like to do around the holidays is to give people who are having free events anywhere in the county and beyond; A 50 word ad with a 10 word max headline. We waive the regular (1x) $65 fee every December. But, it must truly be a FREE event! Get it to us by Novemeber 22 to be in the December Upbeat Times.

May this

issue fi nd you well!

First Humor A very successful

businessman had a meeting with his new son-in-law. “I love my daughter, and now I welcome you into the

family,” said the man. “To show you how much we care for you, I’m making you a 50- 50 partner in my business. All you have to do is go to the factory every day and learn the operations.” The son-in-law interrupted, “I hate factories. I can’t stand the noise.” “I see...,” replied the father-in-law. “Well, then you’ll work in the offi ce and take charge of some of the operations.” “I hate offi ce work,” said the son-on-law. “I can’t stand being stuck behind a desk all day.” “Wait a minute,” said the father-in- law. “I just make you half- owner of a moneymaking organization, but you don’t like factories and won’t work in an offi ce. What am I going to do with you?”

“Easy,” said the young man. “Buy me out.”
