Continuing to Notice How We Remember Whatever We Want Larkfield Couple Honored ... continued from page 16
Santa Rosa, CA. ~ In my last column I encouraged readers to look at themselves from a variety of view- points to assess how ready they are to remember what they want to: mood, weather, food,
ing, planning, needs,
remember- environ-
ment etc. Essen- tially the idea is to be here now and be aware of one’s
emotional, spiritual, mental and physical states. After be- ing dependent on one’s desire, memory is very dependent on those states. In this column I invite read- ers to consider this idea of states as being related to level of consciousness.
When I ask my seminar par- ticipants to define conscious they traditionally say awake

doesn’t it?
That sounds right Then the ques-
tions arise “How awake?” and “Aware of what?” Certainly when we are deeply checking in with ourselves us- ing the above list of elements, we will have a pretty “high” level of conscious- ness. On the other hand if we are just getting over a serious illness or in some form of trance, de-
pressed or feeling hopeless, we may be experiencing a rather “low” level of consciousness. We can be very, very awake and aware only of our pain or joy or love or sadness. We can be sedated or asleep and hear words spoken around us and understand and remember their intent but not their mean- ing. My intent here is not to draw some hard and fast rules

or indicators of levels of con- sciousness but to, again, help us all wake up to and be aware of the miracle of the who-what- where-when-why-how of our- selves at any moment.
Thus
we will be able to remember accurately whatever we want. Two reasons.
First we under-
stand that our state and level of consciousness will help us be assertive to the rest of the world as to how we want infor- mation to come to us (“Speak more slowly, please.” “Draw a picture, please.” “Show me, I’ll do it with you.” Ad infinitum. Second, we can bring memories back into clarity by remember- ing the level of awakeness and awareness we had at the time of the event to be recalled. So remember our four be-
haviors rendering great mem- ory? Use what you want to remember. Can you see how the more awake and aware you feel, the more you can prepare your brain to mark and remem- ber what you want? You will be astounded at the richness of your senses. Colors will croon; tastes will twitch and smells will

nursery—one of the first to be certified by the California De- partment of Food and Agricul- ture. Dempel Farming quickly became the go-to company for start-up vineyard development and during the ‘80s and ‘90s it played a key role in the shift from value priced to premium wine grape growing. Today, Dempel Farming is among only a few growers certified under the Protected Harvest program, which uses an excep- tionally high degree of sustain- ability criteria. For her part, Shirley has played an equally important role for Sonoma County’s agri- cultural community by launch- ing and shaping educational opportunities for youth. She is a leader in local and state 4-H education programs and es- tablished the 4-H Foundation of Sonoma County during the 1990s, with California’s only 4-H Center now located in Rohnert Park. She served as ex- ecutive director of the founda- tion for 20 years, and remains a member of the board of di- rectors. Shirley was also active with the Sonoma County Farm Bureau and launched a pilot program bringing agriculture into the classroom that contin-
ues today. “We really feel like our greatest contribution has been

The modern can opener, with a cutting wheel that rolls around the rim, was invented by
William Lyman of the United States in 1870. The only change from the original patent was the introduction of a serrated rotation wheel by the Star Can Company of San Francisco in 1925. The basic principle continues to be used on the modern can openers, and it was the basis of the first electric can opener, intorduced in December 1931. Pull-open cans, patented by Ermal Fraze of Ohio, debuted in 1966.

Hi Paul, Had to share. After a year and a half of planning, my mom and I took a Princess Cruise through the inland pas- sage celebrating our Septem- ber birthdays. Mom turned 72 and I was born in 72. I turned 43 and mom was born in 43. Awesome trip and had our Upbeat Times with us! Christy Anne (me) and Jude Latchford September, 2015.
Thank you for the only paper I read! ~ Christy Anne
