Hello & welcome to the birthday edition of theWire! This month we are 6!!
I honestly can’t believe it has been six years since I started the magazine.... it’s gone by incredibly quickly, and as I often get asked the same questions, I thought I would take the opportunity to answer a few!
Firstly, yes, theWire is just me. No team beavering away behind the scenes, umm, it’s really just me. On the up-side, this plays to my inability to delegate on any level but on the down-side, it can get a bit tedious with no-one to talk to. This is why I could be known as a bit of a talker when I get out and meet people ;)
I started theWire because we moved here not knowing anyone or indeed anything about the area. We moved from rural Wales and had relied heavily on our community magazine, so once I had found out some information here, I thought it would be a good idea to inflict it on everyone else!
No, I don’t have to deliver it all myself! There is now a team of volunteers who help me deliver theWire and to be honest, without the time of these generous people, I couldn’t keep doing this. We are always looking for a few more to join us!
No, theWire is independent. Not part of any franchise, or other company, just set up by me.
So a huge thank you for all your support. It wouldn’t reflect our community without all those who contribute their news and those who keep it going by being kind enough to advertise in it too!

Amongst the highs, the are inevitably lows too and September was tinged with sadness with the passing of Irene. I hope her family took some comfort from the overwhelming turnout for her funeral.
It might have been some of the worst weather we’d seen
recently, but the street was crowded with those wanting to pay their respects. A procession escorted Irene safely to St Blanes, many people talking quietly about their memories; her inability to say no, and the many occasions when they shared a laugh. She will be missed.
