DIANA KRALL WALLFLOWER WORLD TOUR
Santa Rosa, CA. ~ Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist and vocalist Diana Krall, one of the most distinctive musicians in the world today, brings her “Wall- fl ower World Tour” to Santa Rosa! Musically speaking, she is no wall- fl ower. Respected far and wide as a wildly successful recording and performing artist, Krall remains a true musical force. At any given moment she could be producing Barbra
Streisand’s
Cloverdale, CA. ~ The Mother Hips, the center of which is the duo of Tim Bluhm (vocals/gui- tar) and Greg Loiacono (guitar/ vocals), has spent over two de- cades writing, recording and performing songs, and die-hard fans who still talk about their “fi rst Hips show” have hung on every word and have enabled The Mother Hips to become a bona fi de cottage industry. The band was even able to lay claim to a rock subgenre, “California Soul” (aptly arrived upon), so
the poverty line. If you are not among those 58 million, I have two comments that were noted at the event. One, if you live long enough, you will have dis- abilities. Two, help others who have not been so fortunate. There are so many ways to help people with disabilities every day. First, I want to point out what I consider to be a very important point: the use of the words in this area. The way we use words matters very much. You notice I have always said people with disabilities rather than the disabled. The former notes that I am discussing a person who happens to have a disability and it NOT a disabil- ity.
The person possesses many abilities and should not be stig- matized by a disability, some- thing much of society tends to do, usually without even think- ing about it. Second, engage people who are disabled. They
solidifi ed that brands like Si- erra Nevada Brewery crafted a beer called “Hips Helles” based on the band’s sound.
The Mother Hips has gar- nered critical acclaim from the likes of The New Yorker, Mojo, Relix, Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, among many other outlets, over the years. Sup- porting The Mother Hips will be Sonoma County’s Lazy- man, led by Steve Pile. Genre: California Soul Website:

Celebration of Americans with Disability Act
are just us, who do not yet have a disability, with a challenge we’re lucky not to have. They are visible, not invisible. This may seem obvious if one is, say, in a wheel chair as Antho- ny Tesler is or is using a cane as the blind Director Xavier of the State Department of Reha- bilitation does. But often ‘able bodied’ people seem to act as if they will catch a disability if they interact with ‘these’ peo- ple. That may sound crazy, but I have been told by friends who are disabled and by people with disabilities I have spoken to that people
will shy away from them, look the other way or just plain ig- nore them because of their own discomfort. OK folks, who is one with the disability here? So next time you meet or see or deal with a person with a disability, try to remember we are all human and should be treated as equal citizens with

serving as musical director and ar- ranger for Paul McCartney or hit- ting the road for a good cause with Neil Young. As her latest record shows, Diana Krall has already done all
that and much more.
Along the way Krall has sold more albums than any other female jazz artist of the last 30 years, estab- lishing herself as one of the best- selling and most beloved perform- ers of her generation, one whose recordings thus far have earned her nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. If you choose to continue your education on people with disabilities, I highly rec- ommend the
following You-
Tube 38 second video entitled “Waking Up in Disability So- ciety”:
www.youtube.com/ watch?v=ufMNKMSZoII. It is a short video showing you want it would be like to be an ‘able bodied’ person trying to func- tion in a society in which every person had a disability. As one of the speakers not- ed, we need to repair society around these issues as well as build an infrastructure so all have the freedom to go any- where and work, and that those people with a disability are ful- ly able to help themselves. As you might be able to tell, this topic is near and dear to my heart and mind. I will leave you with an Upbeat message by
