Martin County Fair By Jay Spicer
Hello Fantast ic Fair F s! olk This year, we set out to make the Martin
County Fair “Bigger, Bolder, and Better” than ever! We hit our mark strong. Shook the bag pretty hard. And what came out was wonderful. We added 27 new features to our program. From new ticket machines, to moving the rides around. Here are some of the things we did that you might try... With only 7 days until the Fair opened, I looked out my window at a
whole bunch of Nuthin’. Realizing that in the next week it will blossom full of rides, tents, sharks, grizzly bears, etc, I thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool to watch it go up? So we put up a web cam on a pole. From our website, you could watch the live feed of all the stuff going on. Plus some time- lapse video of a few of our featured attractions going up. We took Volusia County Fair Interim Manager John Owens’ advice and did a FREE FRI- DAY Gate for opening night and realized 4x’s the amount of attendance. AND we made more money! We also had our school system bring the Science Fair to the Fair! Hundreds of students and their families came. We got a new website from our friends at Saffire. We think it’s terrific and invite you to take a look at it.
www.martincountyfair.com. It’s so easy to use, a Fair manager can do it. :-) I could go on for pages, but I’ll end here, I challenged our groups to put on more demonstrations, more exhi- bitions, and more education. And boy did they deliver. Everything from Whip-cracking demos, to Goat Milking Demos. Plus scheduled classes by Master gardeners. In fact our entire program was printed on a foldout so that Fair goers could see what was going on each day of the Fair and at what times. That was huge! Thanks to all of our volunteers and board of directors, the 2015 Fair was a great success. Here’s wishing you all the best, and “Have a Fair day!”
