AND INFLUENCES LEADERS IN D.C. Through the ice and snow, members make a difference during Call on Washington

Trucking Association made their way to Capitol Hill last February for the 2014 Call on Washington. This annual event provides

an opportunity to build relationships, enhance industry clout and increase expo- sure with congressional lawmakers who represent the state. TXTA members spent a full day on
the Hill visiting all 38 members of the Texas delegation and discussing impactful issues such as hours-of-service regulation, hair testing, motor fuels tax, comprehen- sive tax reform, CSA and the various pro- gram improvements in need of congressio- nal oversight.
The success of the visit, apparent in the
signage of several key pieces of legislation, is most evident in the recent passage of the $1.1 trillion spending bill that included language to suspend the previous 34-hour restart pro- vision of the hours-of-service rule. The commonsense fix included in the
omnibus spending bill is a direct result of the involvement and dedication of TXTA members who not only attended Call on Washington, but continued those relation- ships after the February visit. Not only has
