A RECORD YEAR FOR HIGHER-ED 2014-2015 TXTA Foundation scholarship recipients

Foundation was founded in 1978, it has continued to expand its reach by providing $1 million in scholarships to affiliates of the Texas trucking industry. For the 2014-2015 school year, the
Foundation delved out seven additional scholarships equating $7,500 over the pre- vious year. Of the 86 applicants, 30 were selected
to receive a total of $108,500 in scholar- ships. Recipients are designated by the Foundation Board of Trustees on the mer- its of academic achievement, community involvement and financial need. Applications for 2015-2016 academic
year scholarships are available on the TXTA website. Applicants must be an employee of, or the dependent or grand- child of an employee of a TXTA member company, and enroll as a full-time student. Applications must be post-marked March 2, 2015.
HERBERT E. & JOYCE SKINNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2008, the scholarship is awarded to the top recipient as selected by the TXTA Foundation Board of Trustees. The recipient receives an additional $2,000 scholarship.
Amy Manna of Schwertner, Texas, is the recipient of the Herbert E. & Joyce Skinner Memorial Scholarship. She graduated from Salado High School in June 2014 with a 4.0

GPA. Studying educa- tion at Utah State University, Amy is following a life-long dream of becoming a teacher.
She is the daughter of
Melanie Tindell, an employee of Capitol Land & Livestock for the past 23 years.
REESE STUBBS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2011, the scholarship is awarded to the top Texas A&MUniversity recipient as selected by the TXTA Foundation Board of Trustees. The recipient receives an additional $2,000 scholarship.
For the second con- secutive year, Gilbert Costello III of Hondo, Texas, is the recipient of the Reese Stubbs Memorial Scholarship which is awarded to the top
Texas A&MUniversity applicant. After receiving a degree in health, Gilbert plans to attend nursing school and the University of Texas Health Science Center to earn his doctorate.
The son of a single father, Gilbert was often left to be the “man of the house” when his dad, a driver for Refrigerated Transport, would be called in to carry a load.

Ashley Anderson, a 2014 graduate of La
Vernia High School, has always felt a call- ing to help others—from mission trips with her church to volunteering at the local food bank. That’s why she’s decided to study speech pathology at Hardin-Simmons University.
Ashley is the daugh- ter of Mark Anderson of UPS.
Austin Bina of Keller, Texas, is a freshman at Texas A&MUniversity. It
was during a family trip to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum that he discovered a love for flight and decided to pursue a degree in aero- space engineering.
Austin is the son of UPS Area Sales Manager Jeff Bina.
