Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge & District Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge & District Big

Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge has been creating friendships since 1973. They started out matching Big Brothers with Little Brothers and have grown to include a variety of different programs that serve both boys and girls. They are proud of their achievements and continue to strive to be on the leading edge of the Big Brothers Big Sisters movement in Canada. Their vision is that every child in Lethbridge & District who needs a mentor, has a mentor and their mission is to commit to the young people of Lethbridge & District that they will be leaders in providing them with the highest quality, volunteer based mentoring programs. How the community can help: Being a Big Brother or a Big

Sister is all about being a friend to a Little Sister or Little Brother. It’s about hanging out, eating pizza, watching a hockey game or a movie, or going for a walk in the mountains. As a volunteer, your focus is on friendship. The agencies focus is making sure the matches are a “good fit.” Their In-School Mentoring Program matches a volunteer with a child in Grades 1-12 and the visits focus around non-school related activities. The volunteer mentor and the student meet in the child’s school for one hour a week, for the duration of the school year, and spend time doing activities they both enjoy such as crafts, sports, and board games. Game On! is a group mentoring program for providing boys and young men with information and support to make informed choices about a range of healthy lifestyle practices. Through non-traditional physical activities, complemented with healthy eating support, participants are engaged in life skills, communication, and emotional health discussions designed to engage participants in the pursuit of life-long healthy lifestyles. Big Brothers Big Sister are holding their Bowl for Kids Sake on Feb. 27 and 28 and March 6 and 7, and require volunteers to assist with a variety of roles including registration, selling 50/50 tickets and ushering bowlers to their lanes.
