Matting to prevent slips D
espite it being one of the first things to greet people entering a marina reception, matting is
something few people notice even
though it plays a key safety role by significantly reducing the risks of slipping on wet floors. Slips and trips are still the most
common cause of injury at work, accounting for approximately 40% of all reported major injuries, and they are also the most reported injury to members of the public. Workplace equipment supplier

Slingsby, which supplies more than 35,000 workplace products, including a wide range of flooring and matting products, says these statistics could be improved if marinas and yacht clubs checked their mats are up to the job and retain sufficient water. Lee Wright, Marketing Director

of Slingsby, explained: “Most serious slip injuries happen indoors and are due to contaminants, such as water or grease, finding their way on to floors. Obviously, the areas around outside doors are most likely to get wet as water is
brought in on the soles of shoes and this becomes more common during bad weather in Autumn and Winter. H.C. Slingsby PLC

Line snubber shock absorber
The DockShockle from Davis Instruments is a fast, easy way to add a shock-absorbing element to mooring lines. Available in black, the 31 cm DockShockle safely absorbs
shock loads on smaller, lighter boats of up to 12 metres. It features a patented line limiter and progressive tension design to ease constant or sudden shock load and also has a
316 stainless steel karabiner on each end to allow for quick, simple adjustment. LockShockle is made of 1,140 kg test nylon webbing with an outer
sheath of 1,590 kg test tubular nylon webbing. This material is UV- resistant to protect all internal parts. For optimal DockShockle
performance, the ideal working slack in a line is 8-15 cm. Like all line snubbers, DockShockle is used in line with the load. For attaching to braided or
twisted lines up to 19 mm, Davis includes a pair of Mini-LineGrabbers. These create secure attachments using a basic Prusik knot. Each Mini- LineGrabber measures 17 cm long with a sewn loop at each end. Davis Marine Europe

Power boat supports
Using the tried and tested method of triangulation, Tennamast Prop Stands are said to break new ground in adjustability and security not previously seen on power boat supports. Capable of being linked together with chain and the extra option of ground anchors, Prop Stands are a safe way of supporting the keels of power boats. They are also easy
to employ by the time-conscious marina operator. The supports, which are able
to accommodate all sizes of craft and utilise Tennamast’s large area carpeted hull pads and specially manufactured adjusters, can be folded flat for transportation and storage.
By using the MIG welding process and galvanising to ISO MARINA EURO-REPORT • DECEMBER 2014
1461, the durable stands will give a long, trouble-free life. The Small Prop is adjustable in height from 680-1,150 mm, the Large Prop is adjustable in height from 1,060-1,800 mm and the Extra Large Prop is adjustable in height from 1,350-2,100 mm. Tennamast (Scotland) Ltd
