22 MARINA VISIT

Marina di Loano, Italy

O

wned by Gruppo Unipol, Marina di Loano lies in the heart of West Liguria not far from the international

airports of Genoa in Italy and Nice in France. The facility was expanded in 2011 and can accommodate 855 yachts from 6-77 metres in length and a draft between 3.5 metres and 5.0 metres protected by a substantial breakwater. This structure encloses and protects the marina, which is easily accessible and safe even in the most adverse weather conditions. The marina has berths for visiting craft, as well as moorings reserved for local residents and fi shing boats. It also provides slipways for launching trail boats. Built to the highest safety and

environmental standards, Marina di Loano received the ISO 9001:08 Quality Certifi cation, the offi cial

quality management system standard, in June, 2013, having previously received ISO 14001:04, the certifi cation that attests to the conformity with international standards of environmental management systems, and OHSAS 18001:07, the certifi cation concerning safety in the workplace. On 16 April, 2014, the marina

unveiled a new Superyacht Area dedicated to recreational vessels of up to 77 metres. Over 100 guests attended the inauguration, including local authorities, superyacht brokers, captains and owners from Italy and abroad, as well as local entrepreneurs and the national and international media. Design, build and installation

of these seven superyacht berths was carried out by C.M. Ferrer SA of Girona, Spain (see advertisement

transients in the marina were moved to allow room for a fully-dedicated superyacht facility with fl oating concrete fi nger piers. Special fl oating concrete pontoons were designed for a rear walkway, which was fabricated to follow exactly the shape of the curved quay wall and is accessed by a heavy duty gangway that allows small service and delivery vehicles to access the berths. Bespoke polished stainless steel service pedestals commissioned by Marina Di Loano and an upgraded electricity supply ensures that ample power is provided to the facility, together with a full menu of amenities, including a dedicated Wi-Fi system for the marina.

Gianluca Santi, President of Marina di Loano, said of the development: “Through the new Superyacht Area, Marina di Loano consolidates its leadership position in the world of European and international yachting, becoming a benchmark in the large yacht segment. At the same time, the marina off ers the whole territory of Western Liguria additional opportunities in terms of accommodation capacity ensuring a positive impact on local tourism”. According to the latest fi gures

released by Federagenti, the National Maritime Broker and Agent Federation in Italy, the global fl eet of yachts over 30 metres will continue to grow steadily in the medium to long-term (2015-2032). The fi gures also demonstrate that the Mediterranean is the destination
