Ofsted recently released a report recommending that schools should work more closely with parents/ carers and local health agencies to promote the health and well-being of all pupils, especially those who are overweight. Kent Sport is now working in partnership with the NHS and Public Health to provide you with all the help you may need.

Did you know the NHS provides two fantastic Family Lifestyle Clubs?

Programmes Lifestyle Family

The Change 4 Life Club is a five week club for all children aged 7-11. It uses the National Change 4 Life messages to help everyone eat well, move more and live longer.

The club can be run during curriculum sessions slotting nicely into PSHE or as an after school club with or without

parental involvement. It is a great way to teach simple health messages using a fun and interactive format.

Ready Steady Go is a targeted programme for children aged 7-11 who are above a healthy weight and would like some extra support to make some lifestyle changes. This club

is always held after school as children come with parents to learn as a family. The club is fun and interactive and is held over 12 weeks.

Warden House School in Deal are embracing healthy lifestyles with their Year 2 children by running a Change 4 Life club during their PSHE curriculum.

Teacher Mrs Brown, who has undertaken the NHS’s free Food Champion training, is co-delivering with Paul Ashwell from the Healthy Weight Team and are having great success in getting the children enthused about increasing their fruit and vegetable intake, making sensible snack swaps as well as getting their 60 active minutes.

Warden House is working towards becoming an enhanced Healthy School and is using Change 4 Life to support some of their goals. They have also been hosting Ready Steady Go as an after school club with more work planned for 2015.
