STEAM ROOMS CASE STUDY Devon Hotel Gets The Full Wellness Makeover

The luxurious family-owned Thurlestone Hotel near Kingsbridge in Devon is used to accolades having won Gold in Visit Britain’s Large Hotel of the Year Awards for Excellence 2010 but they were not prepared for the deluge of compliments that followed the completion of a stunning Wellness suite in July. The hotel’s original indoor pool, with a small acrylic spa and steam room was dated and in need of complete refurbishment. The hotel employed Torquay-based, Harris Pools & Leisure who turned to the services of Certikin for the advice, design a nd supply of a large amount of equipment. As part of the refurbishment, Certikin designed a Thermal Suite which incorporated the latest features including a laconium, sauna, steam room and speciality shower unit (a Tropical rain shower and standard drench shower).

offering excellent customer service. Aqua Steam Generators pride themselves that their range of steam generators provides maximum performance, easy installation, simple operation and lower maintenance time and costs.

During operation the auto flushing system enables the Aqua-Steam room generator to flush small amounts of water peridically this significantly reduces the amount of impurities, scale and solids that may otherwise build up in the tank.

Their versatile range consists of three sizes of generator, each has the option of three power settings 3, 6 or 9kW, 6, 9 or 12kW and 18, 21 or 24 kW giving the user or installer the opportunity to adjust the steam

The whole project took six months to complete during which the hotel remained open so any disturbance to the guests had to be kept to an absolute minimum. Mike Harris, MD of Harris Pools said: “I think the end result exceeded everyone’s expectations. We have been using Certikin equipment since 1983 and I am confident in saying that we could not have completed this

project without the exceptional support and service we received from Certikin, especially Steve Nelson (Certikin Commercial Manager). His input on the equipment’s specification and design was vital, and he was always able to advise and help when unforeseen problems cropped up.” With glowing comments from guests such as ‘Wow, this is exceptional and far exceeds our expectations!’ and ‘Every detail has been thought of with really tasteful design and amazing facilities’, the hotel’s owners were also delighted with Hotel Director, Julie Baugh saying: “It’s lovely to get such positive feedback from guests and club members. People

have sophisticated expectations now in terms of levels of luxury, facilities and treatments. We are pleased to have been able to meet them.”

output more accurately and efficiently to the size of steam room or cubicle.

The new range of equipment allows the company to provide the right generator for the application providing excellent control. Electrode boilers with solid stainless steel electrodes as standard ensure a long service life with the option of cleanable or disposable cylinders, whilst the resistive humidifiers reduce consumables and decrease the frequency of maintenance.

Humidity Solutions’ engineers are happy to assist with sizing, selection and advice including a competitive quotation. In addition, if customers are replacing an old generator, then they are able to take advantage of a scrappage scheme where extra discount is on offer in return for an old unit. SPN
