And the winner of HWYE finals is ...


David Adams of Pennyhill Timber has won the 2014 Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur of the Year finals


Adams represented the Farnborough region in the competition and his company, Pennyhill Timber, is one of the south's largest independent timber merchants and wholesale retailers.


The Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur finals were held in Reading and the other inspiring finalists, who represented Haines Watts’ offices from around the Thames Valley, were: Andrew Baker of Play2Give, Antony Holeksa of Learn to Dance and Sian Brennan-Todd of Dance & Cheer 49.


Baker’s company, Play2Give, is a fundraising organisation which organises events and projects for local charities; Holeksa’s business Learn to Dance is a Ballroom and Latin American Dance School running a variety of group classes,


private lessons and dance holidays; while Brennan-Todd’s Dance & Cheer 49 offers many types of dance and cheerleading classes.


John Bailey, chairman of the judges, said: “This year the finalists were particularly notable for their enthusiasm and energy. It’s encouraging that these entrepreneurs, some of our future business leaders, display such vision at a young age. Congratulations to all of them.”


Guest judges at the event were David Murray, founder, MD and publisher of The Business Magazine and Simon Biltcliffe, who founded and is MD of Webmart, a world-leader in print management. They were joined by Haines Watts’ judges John Bailey, Simon Garrett, Jane Gregory, Gary Heywood and Jane Wills.

After the ‘Dragon’s Den’ style candidate sessions, entrepreneurs Simon Biltcliffe and Sean Taylor (MD of Redwood Technologies and Content Guru), gave useful presentations to the finalists on their experiences in business and provided tips on creating successful ventures.


The finalists all received a year of free mentoring with Haines Watts partners as part of their prize, along with cheques for £250. David Adams


received an additional £500 in prize money as overall winner.
