Dynamic Business AWARD Winner: Accumuli Security

With many tables already celebrating, Fiona Bruce reminded the audience that there were still three awards to go. Guests then congratulated the six category finalists whose own business dynamism had set them apart from their competitors.
The judges had been looking for energy, enthusiasm and positivity in the way the entrants interacted with customers, suppliers and employees.
Sponsors Deloitte, the ‘Big Four’ accountants and business advisers that work in partnership with many dynamic Thames Valley companies, had six contenders shortlisted for the award: Accumuli Security, the independent specialist in IT security and risk management. Rapidly growing, the Hampshire company with a global customerbase aims ‘to enable organisations to manage the ever-increasing IT risk landscape and leverage their IT assets for business value’; NewVoiceMedia, specialists in cloud-based call centres and hosted solutions, and contesting its third award category of the evening; Oxford Products, the UK’s top supplier of motorcycle and cycle accessories also exports to over 60 countries, and has its own US subsidiary. It has invested heavily in its 90-plus staff, product development and infrastructure, and PM David Cameron recently opened a significantly expanded HQ in Witney; Ridgeway, the fast- growing motor retail group, headquartered in Newbury, and also contesting its third award category of the evening; The Knowledge Academy, global provider of bespoke training and consultancy solutions, aiming to better its second-place in the Management Team of the Year category; and, ULS Group, a finalist for the second time on the night, but the first company

to offer a comparison conveyancing model to the financial services market. Over the past two years, it has invested more than £2 million in its technology with the aim of becoming the platform of choice for comparison services in the legal, financial and property markets.
Toby Wright, partner in charge of audit for private markets at Deloitte, and Nick Hewer announced and presented the main award to Gavin Lyons, CEO of the winning company – Accumuli Security.
The judging panel’s overview stated: “From a great idea shared over a pint in London to becoming an AIM-listed company, our winner impressed us with its driving ambition, energy and sheer tenacity.
“Specifically, their compelling strategic vision, the boldness of their endeavour, commitment to their people including a CEO mentoring programme and the confession that ‘we are proper geeks’ distinguished this company from their peers in this award category.”
Second place went to Ridgeway and was received by chief executive John O’Hanlon. Third place was awarded to The Knowledge Academy and the Highly Commended finalists were NewVoiceMedia, Oxford Products and ULS Group.
Gavin Lyons, CEO of Accumuli Security, which apart from its Basingstoke head office has offices in Cambridge and Leeds, spoke on stage after the winner’s presentation: “We have gone from zero to a £50m market capitalisation in three and a half years which is superb growth. You need to have a strategy but you also have to have the right execution plan, and we’ve had
that along with a very good culture, great values and a great team. This honour tonight is for them.”
Later he added on Accumuli’s website: “This award is affirmation that we are doing the right things for our customers and employees – the entire team is delighted and I thank Deloitte for investing the time to understand our company in detail.
“We recognise that people are our best asset; they have rare skills and capabilities . . . and this award will spur us on further, to achieve together as one team.”
