Redwood’s success rooted at the heart of the UK's Tech Valley

Bracknell-based communications technology innovator Redwood Technologies reflects on a successful 21 years at the centre of the UK’s Tech Valley

Redwood Technologies was bootstrapped in 1993 by two brothers in their twenties, Sean and Martin Taylor, armed with an initial budget of just £20,000. The Taylors have since gone a long way, overseeing the company through its growth into a truly international organisation, recognised as a leading regional technology hub by a visit from His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, in May 2014. The brothers have also gone on to found other businesses, the latest of which, Radius Communications, was incorporated in 2013.

The cornerstone of the company’s success has been its portfolio of enterprise digital communications solutions, which enables communications of any sort to take place, whether business-to-business (B2B), business- to-consumer (B2C) or internal. Services include sophisticated next-generation cloud contact centre infrastructure (handling social media, email, voice, web and instant messaging communications), secure payment processing, machine-to-machine solutions and consumer profiling solutions based on communications and spending behaviour.

it was delightful to be recognised in the region by Prince Edward’s visit. We’re proud not only of our achievements as a company, but also of our position here at the heart of Tech Valley, which has proven instrumental to our success. We’re now active in more than a quarter of the world’s countries, helping to enhance communications on a global scale, and our location has played an integral role in our story.

Since inception, Redwood has been headquartered in Bracknell, at the heart of the UK’s Tech Valley, taking advantage of its position among some of the world’s largest technology companies to help achieve rapid global expansion. Today its communications technologies have been deployed at blue-chip organisations in over 50 countries. It operates regional headquarters in The Hague, the Netherlands, and Silicon Valley, USA, as well as maintaining a presence in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Berlin, Germany.

Sean Taylor, managing director, commented: “It’s been a hugely successful two decades for Redwood and

“Earlier in my career I worked in Silicon Valley, and it’s a similar kind of buzz to the one created in the UK by the Thames Valley’s tech cluster. If you drive anywhere within a 30-mile radius of Bracknell, you will see an impressive array of hi-tech companies, from well- known multinationals to exciting start- ups, some of which will become world- renowned within the next 20 years. All of this makes our region one of the most exciting locations in the world.

“There’s a lot of noise around Silicon Roundabout, but Tech Valley is even more compelling as a place to headquarter an IT business. For multinationals, it’s a prime location for a

regional headquarters, supported by easy access to Heathrow, the UK’s business hub, and the proximity of both the M3 and M4. For SMEs, the supply of British talent for the area is their lifeblood. These businesses are hugely important as they will be at the heart of the UK’s economic recovery and future success.”
