And then, rather fittingly to suit the celebratory party mood of this memorable 20th ‘birthday’ event, the evening ended with a special award.

Fiona Bruce invited David Murray to the stage to announce the recipient of a special TVBMA Chairman’s Award, being presented on behalf of The Business Magazine and TVBMA sponsors to “a Thames Valley success story.”

Maintaining the audience air of anticipation, Murray described the Chairman’s Award winner as “a business that has grown significantly over the past decade or more, and one that has provided jobs and opportunities in an important business sector.

“The winning company is the parent for leading brands that have a reputation for service and standards. Multi-award winners over the years, tonight TVBMA acknowledges the company’s contribution to its industry and our region. Its name is WSH, also known to many as Westbury Street Holdings.

“Trading under such brands as BaxterStorey, WSH has a portfolio of event catering and hospitality contracts with blue-chip clients, restaurants, delis and coffee bars.

“Headquartered at Thames Valley Park in Reading, WSH now has a turnover of well over £500 million-plus, employs 15,000 people within its group workforce and is a regular award winner in its industry for the quality of its offering. It is also No.11 in the current Thames Valley 250 listing of top private companies,” he added.

of the WSH group, now a major player in the UK catering and food service sector.

In December 2012, WSH chief executive Storey was named the UK’s ‘Most Powerful Person in Hospitality’, by Caterer & Hotelkeeper magazine, knocking Jamie Oliver off the top spot.

Storey began his catering career in 1975 as a trainee, rising to managing directorships before in 2000 launching his own company Wilson Storey with FD colleague Keith Wilson. Mergers quickly followed with Wokingham-based Halliday Catering Services, Berkshire caterer Houston & Church, and BaxterSmith to become BaxterStorey, now a key part of the WSH group.

WSH has taken strong independent brands into its fold but helps them grow and prosper, while retaining the individuality that makes them unique and appealing.

Caterlink is a specialist caterer within schools, colleges and universities, literally aiming to providing the right nutritional ‘food for thought’ while encouraging a well-balanced diet and healthy eating.

Holroyd Howe creates beautiful food exclusively for independent schools.

Portico offers impeccable event front-of house and tailored welcoming services.

Benugo provides retail catering in high street shops, restaurants and public places such as museums and stations, and in October became Retail & Leisure Caterer of the Year at the Foodservice Catey Awards. At the same awards, BaxterStorey staff collected three ‘Cateys’, the Oscars of the sector.

With a heritage built on sourcing fresh, seasonal, local produce, combined with dedicated training and development of its people, WSH is no stranger to awards – notably for service standards, sustainable practices, food procurement and its Chef, Barista and Leadership Academies.

Now it was receiving another from the TVBMA.

Fiona Bruce invited Marc Bradley, chief financial officer of WSH, to the stage to join David Murray and Nick Hewer for the award presentation.

Afterwards, Bradley commented: “This is fantastic for our company to receive this award, but in all honesty it is for all the people that we employ in the company. Day in day out, the hospitality sector is a very tough sector. Everyone works very hard and we are very proud of them all.”
