The Year was announced at the AIIC AGM, when Charlotte Leigh received a trophy, a year’s free AIIC membership and prize money. Pat Barber, Chair of the AIIC, said, “We are delighted to have crowned Charlotte Inventory Clerk Of The Year Award. This is the second year of the Awards and we were

very surprised by the large number of nominations we received. The competition was tough, but Charlotte is very worthy winner with outstanding nominations from her clients.” Charlotte said, “I’d like to thank all my clients that took time to nominate me and for all the supportive comments they made. in particular Estate and Lettings agents do not always enjoy the best of reputations, so we need to work even harder to build strong relationships with our customers.” Sue unveiled statistics from a recent poll she ran on the online business network LinkedIn. The Poll reveals that 34 per cent of professionals are still unaware that ARLA exists, with 11 per cent never checking whether their agents are part of a regulatory body. However, 22 per cent do check whether their letting agent is ARLA

registered if they have had no previous experience with that agent, and 33 per cent stated that they would check if an agent was a member of a body such as ARLA before instructing them. Sue Hughes-Thomas went on to say that agents “should take responsibility to educate their own customers on the role of ARLA. It’s up to the industry as a whole to stand tall above rogue agents, and for us to all be seen to distance ourselves from this image. We must continue to lobby for the

forced regulation of letting agents but, in the meantime, use our collective force to continue to self- regulate and then tell the world that this is what we are doing.”

The next major professional event specifically for letting agents is the PROPERTYdrum and NALS Lettings Conference and Exhibition on 27th September. This is set to be a sell-out so put the date in your diary and see the May issue of PROPERTYdrum for registration details.
