The

Summer Workshop Offers Great Variety of Topics! The Florida Federation of Fairs Summer Workshop was held August

1st & 2nd in West Palm Beach, FL. The event was hosted by the South Florida Fair whose President, Rick Vymlatil is the current President of the Florida Federation of Fairs. There were one hundred seven attendees representing twenty Florida Fairs from

throughout the state. The two day event kicked off Friday afternoon with a presenta- tion from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. It included an update from Mark Gonzales with the Bureau of Fair Ride Inspections, John Court with the Division of Animal Industry, and Danny Raulerson with information on grant fund- ing and applications for monies for Fair capital improvement projects. Bill Olson with the Greater Jacksonville Ag Fair walked the group through the Federation’s new web- site which has been redesigned by Saffire Events. Then the South Florida Fair pulled together two panels from their local area for a workshop on “What Do Sponsors Expect For Their Investment” with panelists Mercedes Peeples, Coca Cola; Jennifer Berthume, Lion Country Safari; Todd Bachman, Kubota; and Ja- son Aube, BB&T Bank. The panel gave Fairs a great insight into what Fairs need to consider when approaching potential sponsors. That workshop was followed with a presentation on “How To Gain Media Partnerships For Your Event” by Elizabeth Hamma and Jennifer Cart- wright from Palm Beach Broadcasting. Again, an eye-opening presentation from actual Fair media partners. On Friday evening the South Florida Fair host-

It was a great evening with great food, a relaxing format, and time to network with all our Florida Fair friends. Thanks again to the South Florida Fair, our YPI group was treated to a “Ghost Tour” through the Fair’s Yesteryear Village and their actual haunted house. Saturday morning’s program kicked off with a

presentation on Fair Trip 2014 by some of this year’s attendees – Rick Vymlatil, Fran and Randy Crone, Lisa Kelley, Karson Turner, and Miranda Muir. The group then separated for 2 sessions of round-table discussions covering a wide range of topics. The program wrapped up with a presentation on “What Could Go Wrong With That?’ A proactive approach to risk man- agement and insurance by J.D. Linn with Haas and Wilkerson.
