As the Fair season enters the final phase for 2014, we look at the pro- gress being made.


More Fairs are conducting Commu- nication/Concessionaire Meetings. Some are done by Committee while others are meetings open to all Concessionaires.


well as the improvements that have been made. It is also a time to talk about plans for the future. Communication is the key to success for both entities.


Concessionaires are an intricate part of the Fair and every Fair wants to say “we have the best Concessionaires.” For our Concessionaires, one of the most important issues is to understand exactly what the Fair wants. Is the Fair looking for new products, good equipment, decorating around their location, participation in various Fair programs? Along the same line of thinking, consider what the Concessionaire needs. A reasonable rent is always the first thought, de-


pendable power is a major concern, not only for the trailer but the stock trucks. Keeping the stock truck in a reasona- ble proximity of the trailer is very helpful. Monitoring the products being sold is also important, not only when book- ing Concessionaires but when the Fair opens as well. I would encourage all Fairs to request a menu as part of the contract and check on the products being sold during the Fair.


These meetings


are beneficial to everyone. The Fair has the opportunity to update the Concessionaires on the changes as


Concessionaires may offer suggestions. It will be ideas


that have worked well at other Fairs and they want to pass the idea along to you. After all, they have a vested interest in the success of the Fair.


NICA members are well known for “pitching in” to help with various projects around the Fair. They will help with fundraising activities to promote scholarships and agricul- tural programs.


Communication is the key to everyone’s success.
