Hardee County Fair Presents Pageants By Theresa Crawford Each year, as an attraction in the Civic Center, the Hard- ee County Fair presents five pageants. This is a tradition in Hardee County dating back to the Pickle King and Queen which eventually evolved into the five current pageants during the week of the fair. These pageants are organized by Teresa Crawford who was brought in by Dottie Conerly who chaired the events for many years prior to Crawford signing on. The pageants are held in the Hardee County Civic Center and reserved seating and general admission tickets are sold for this event. Each year the pageants take on a theme and opening number outfits, music and décor help bring that theme to life.
The Miss Hardee County Pageant, a staple of the
Hardee County Fair has always featured seniors until last year when efforts were directed to ensuring that our Queen be at home to participate in local events. This event is directed by Krista Ulrich and her amazing committee. Our new Queen is a junior and will represent our county during her senior year . Also new is our sponsor speech given by contestants to introduce their sponsors and thanking them for their patronage. The 2nd grade pag- eant has an equally long history showcasing a boy and a
girl from each classroom in the Hardee County School dis- trict. This pageant has had over 50 contestants and fluc- tuates according to the number of 2nd grade classes. This pageant is presented under the directorship of Ray Gill. Next, is the 8th grade pageant under the direction of
Beth Carlton. 8th grade girls meeting the stipulated re- quirements and having a sponsor participate in the pag- eant and an essay competition. Two of the newest pag- eants are the kindergarten and fifth grade pageants. These pageants are under the directorship of Kristin Rivas and Donna Parks respectively. The kindergarten pageant is entertaining and in addition to our Kindergarten Princess a personality winner is also selected. The 5th grade pageant fea- tures fun-facts re- searched by the con- testants and a sports- wear completion which includes props. These pageants offer an op- portunity for our con- testants and families to participate in the Hardee County
Fair
and to showcase their talents.
