Improving performance... through performing arts

A research survey conducted in August with 1,500 parents, whose children regularly attend performing arts activities, explored the benefits performing arts has in all aspects of a child’s life.

Over 90% of parents surveyed believe their child feels more confident at school, having attended performing arts classes, with 85% seeing an improvement in academic performance.

Parents also noted the following improvements in their child’s ability to:

 Express opinions to adults they do not know (94%)  Listen attentively (89%)  Find innovative solutions to problems (91%)  Make new friends (92%)

The study commissioned by Stagecoach Theatre Arts backs up research highlighted in the government’s ‘Taking Part’ initiative and the DICE (Drama Improves Lisbon Key Competences in Education) report, which showed children who took part in drama activities are more likely to be better at problem solving, feel more confident in communication and are more innovative and entrepreneurial. Stagecoach has been providing children’s performing arts education for over 25 years and believes that a focus on teaching life skills in addition to academic knowledge helps

develop independent, creative learners who are more able to adapt to new situations. Stagecoach Theatre
