Traffic lights needed at J6
Dear Sir – I agree with the views expressed by Shirley Miller in the August edition that the new road markings on the Running Horse Roundabout at M20 Junction 6 have not improved the safety or the traffic flow at this roundabout. I enter the roundabout from the Royal Engineers Road and remain in the le hand lane to take the M20 London exit. However, the vast majority of drivers in the right hand lane ignore the road markings and still cut across to take the M20 London exit, instead of continuing around the roundabout. If KCC reallywants to improve safety on
this roundabout, it needs to invest the money to install peak-time traffic lights, as thiswould be the onlyway to safely

control the flow of traffic around the roundabout. In addition, there should be solid lines on the M20 London exit to prevent drivers from immediately changing lanes as soon as they take this exit – there is plenty of time to change lanes further away from the roundabout. Ms Miller’s suggestion of installing a couple of cameras on the roundabout would also be helpful, and might help to raise the funds required for traffic lights. Recently I have opted to join the roundabout at junction 5 as this is a far safer junction. Sarah Leeson, by email

We are not prepared to pay a decent
salary for decent politicians becausewe are squeezing our own people with low wage/low skill jobs that means any potential pay increase in the public sector is being “downsized” to meet a public expectation that if I'm suffering you must suffer too. We keep geing it wrong because those
that control this country don't have the management skills to get it right. Even in this small island and even smaller countywe don’t have enough skilled people to make the right decisions at the right time across many, many professions. Ifwewant to retain our MPs then a management solutionwould be to halve their number and pay them more. Richard Maryan, by email
