Top marks for leisure centre

IT’S not just children who had a good time at Larkfield Leisure Centre this summer. Secret inspectors, who have been

out and about in Tonbridge and Malling, found the centre in Lunsford Lane scored 100% in its health and safety checks. All Tonbridge and Malling pools

and leisure centres attained excel- lent results in the visits, whichwas carried out by mystery inspectors from Right Directions – industry- trained professionals who spot how well run such centres are, by looking at them from a customer perspective. Visits assess everything from

health and safety and equipment to cleanliness, changing rooms and staffing in minute detail. TMActive, which operates Lark-

Leisure Trust (TMLT) said the re- sultswere exceptional. On average, TM Active’s centres

scored 85.4%, putting the group in the top quarter of all leisure centres in the UK –way above the national average of 70% and the pass mark of 67%.

Larkfield Leisure Centre and the

Angel Centre both scored 100% for health and safety, while Tonbridge Pool and Poult Wood received top marks for their activity pro- grammes. Martin Guyton, chief executive of

TMLT, said: “To ensure all our sites are as safe and customer friendly as possible, we undertake two mys- tery visits every year. “We are thrilled that the latest re-

ports highlight such strong per- formances from all our centres. “The visits don’t just reveal what

we’re doing well, they also high- light areas for improvement, and we will be examining each site’s re- port to establish small changes which may need to be made to keep our scores high and our cus- tomers happy.”

MORE than 500 people attended Kings Hill Cricket Club’s open day. The event included a number of softball matches between some of the club’s emerging talent in the U11 Young Cricketers followed by a hard ball game between the two U11 league squads, the Hurricanes and Vampires. The event culminated in a challenge match between the Kings Hill Mosquitos and Beadles, one of the sponsors, who won.

The open day also marked 10

years since the idea of a cricket club was proposed to developer Liberty Property Trust UK, which, with partner KCC, provided a ground and pavilion. They were opened by cricketing legend Derek Underwood in 2010. The club now has more than 100

playing and social members. The adult section is progressing through the Kent structured league network and the junior section is thriving, with 75 U11s on the books and more than 40 on the waiting list. And as Luca Miller (pictured) shows, you’re never too young to give it a go.

Boost to RBLI sign factory
