A DISCOUNT supermarket, two non-food stores and a drive- through fast food restaurant at the junction of Hermitage Lane and the A20 London Road, Aylesford, have won planning consent. The site is next to Sainsbury’s su- perstore and the Quarry Wood re- tail park, which includes Homebase, Halfords and Currys PCWorld.
Tonbridge and Malling Council approved the joint application by Hawkstone Vale and Royal British Legion Industries to demolish the empty post office at 203 London Road and eight vacant bungalows built in the 1920s for disabled ser- vicemen from the FirstWorldWar, as part of the nearby RBLI Village at Preston Hall. Food store Aldi would take the
largest unit with 1,431sqm of floor- space, with two non-food retail units planned of 1,115sqm and 139sqm. The restaurant would have a ground floor of 288sqm and an upper floor of 228sqm, as well as drive-through facility. The development would face London Road and access would be by a new road off Hermitage Lane,

LEYBOURNE Lakes Country Park, between Snodland and Larkfield, has been won a Green Flag Award for the eighth consecutive year. The Green Flag recognises and
rewards the best green spaces in the country and is awarded by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. Leybourne Lakes is a 230-acre
site developed from gravel works. It is dominated by a series of lakes that offer quiet recreation for visi- tors and a valued sanctuary for wildlife. It is popular for walking and water sports and has a picnic area and children's play area. The park is managed and main- tained by Tonbridge&Malling Bor-

Driver banned
A SNODLAND man was banned from driving for three years by Sevenoaks magistrates after admit- ting failing to provide a blood spec- imen. Martin Spacey (29), of Lewis Mews, was also given a three- month curfew, ordered to pay £350 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
