Tickets selling fast for fourth Music@Malling Festival


THE fourth Music@Malling Festival runs from Tuesday to Sunday, September 23 to 28 and is proving a hit with audiences with tickets selling fast. There is something for everyone in this year’s festival. Highlights include two jazz events at St.Mary’s Church, West Malling, featuring James Pearson - artistic director of Ronnie Scott’s in London and his band. The first concert on Friday, September 26 at 8pm features the American Song Book with outstanding vocalist Polly Gibbons together with jazz inspired by Bach, featuring hits by George Shearing, Jaques Loussier and many more. A must for jazz fans.


The second event on September 27 recreates Frank Sinatra’s legendary album - Close to You with the Tippett Quartet, James Pearson, Ronnie Scott’s All Stars and the wonderful singer, Matt Ford who is a regular soloist with the acclaimed John Wilson Orchestra.


About 2,000 primary school children are involved in a series of workshops and


concerts based on H K Gruber’s iconic Frankenstein. This will include ground- breaking performances involving local schools dancing and performing with members of English National Ballet and Chamber Domaine in Ashford and Malling.


If you love a walk, there is a Bach Pilgrimage with concerts in the historic churches of Addington, Trottiscliffe and Birling featuring the Sacconi Quartet, Thomas Kemp, Richard Harwood and Steven Devine in works by Bach Ravel and Elgar. The

churches are stunning, as is the landscape and there are fabulous pubs on the route which will be great places to grab a bite or a drink in between each concert.


Shakespeare’s 450th


anniversary is celebrated with words and music in West


Malling Church on Saturday, September 27. Leading Shakespearean actor, Peter Dyer - a regular at the Globe Theatre, London reads some of The Bard’s finest lines which link into music performed by outstanding baritone Jonathan McGovern, and Sholto Kynoch - the artistic director of the Oxford Lieder Festival. Celebrated artist Graham Clarke will have an exhibition of works inspired by Shakespeare as part of this event.


The grand finale on Sunday, September 28 at 5pm is a family concert featuring Peter and the Wolf - a great way to end the festival and free for under 21s. The final concert also includes some of Bach’s greatest orchestral pieces including the Double Violin
