Ambulance firm ‘still needs to improve’

A PRIVATE ambulance service at Larkfield has been told it still needs to improve its service after another visit by inspectors. The Care Quality Commission

called on NSL Kent in SheldonWay in March after an inspection in No- vember, prompted by complaints. Inspectors spoke to service users

and health managers who said im- provements had been made to the planning and delivery of the service and to staff recruitment checks.

However, it said more needed to be done to ensure patients received a reliable and consistent service. They found NSL Kent had taken

on more staff and vehicles to meet demand and “floorwalkers” pro- vided a point of contact for patients at hospitals. However, problems still arose for some patients needing to be collected after 6pm, in spite of NSL being contracted to provide a 24-hour service. The CQC also called for training

AYLESFORD Sports College’s new head teacher is Charlie Guthrie, who steps up from being deputy head. Mr Guthrie takes over at the start in Sep-

tember, replacing Doug Lawson who is leaving after 22 years at the school to take up a new post of executive principal at the Basildon Academies in Essex. Mr Lawson joined the school as a tech-

updates for staff joining NSL from other organisations and noted that not all recruitment procedures fully met the required regulation. Its report said quality assurance processes were now more robust, the provider had improved systems for monitoring its service and com- plaintswere responded to in a more timely manner. NSL has been asked to send the

CQC a report by August 16, setting out the action it intends to take.

New head takes over at sports college

nology co-ordinator in 1992 and went on to become head teacher nine years ago. He has led the school through several glowing Ofsted reports, the most recent in January when it was rated good. Colleagues organised a surprise helicop-

ter flight from Headcorn Aerodrome with a flypast over the school field where pupils formed the school’s initials ASSC.
