stands down A SNODLAND-born police ser- geant has retired after almost 35 years service in the force. Sgt Kevin Brigden (pictured)


was born in Birling Road, and attended St Katherine's Primary School. He joined the police in 1980 and served in various parts of Kent. He was pro- moted to


sergeant in 1995. In June 2008 he became the neighbourhood police sergeant for Snodland and Borough Green. Kevin married Carol in 1984


and they have a daughter and son. The couple live in Kemsing, near Sevenoaks. He said: "Policing has changed beyond all recogni- tion. Society was a much nicer place in the 80s.” Kevin plans to work but will


wait until after the summer holi- day before looking for work. "The main thing I am missing is the camaraderie," he added.


ABOUT 3,000 people are esti- mated to have lined the roads and attended the carnival at Potyns Sportsground. The theme for the floats and walkers was "Celebrating the Armed Forces" and the judges were the Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling Sasha Luck, the Rev Hugh Broadbent and Robert Beswarick, secretary of Snodland Chamber of Commerce. After the judging at Holmesdale


Technology College the procession made its way through the town to Potyns. The college won the over 12s


floats, with Tonic for the Troops. Clocktower Child Care’s Blitz float with guest John Miller, nephew of band leader GlennMiller, on board won the Under 12s floats, with De- vonshire Rooms Pre-School sec- ond with their replica of the town's cenotaph. rows won the walking group, with 3rd Snodland Brownies as Land Army Girls second and Snodland Cubs third with the Royal Tourna- ment. A Spitfire and Hurricane from the


RAF Air Events Team carried out three flypasts during the afternoon.

Band, the Glenduart Pipe Band andDK Twirlers took part in the pa- rade and gave displays at Potyns along with the Brooks Academy of Dance and Silhouettes Dance & Theatre School. There was also a wrestling dis-


play by members of International Pro-Wrestling UK. The day raised £670 for Snodland Clock Tower Trust.
