Town Talk

THE Archdeacon of Tonbridge & Malling, the VenClive Mansell, has dedicated the Snodland Stones, a prayer walk created in All Saints’ Church yard, Snodland. Eight 2ft highCeltic stones have been set into

the ground around the boundary wall of the churchyard. Mr Mansell was guest preacher in the service conducted by the Rector, the Rev Hugh Broad- bent and the Rev Sue Brooks. After the service the congregation faced the font, where a bowl of water and a scallop shell had been placed. The shell is the traditional emblem of the apostle James and was popular with pilgrims

Mystery name

TOWN Talk asked 20 residents of Snodland: "Where is St An- thony's Court?" No one knew. It is the name of homes in the converted United Church at the junction of the High Street and Queens Road by Berry Es-

tates. Tonbridge & Malling Council said: "It was the name the developer put on the appli- cation form.”

who crossed the River Medway at the church, a 14th century grade I listed building. They car- ried a shell with them and presented them- selves at churches, castles and abbeys on the way to be given as much sustenance as they could pick up with one scoop. Using the water of baptism from the font Mr Mansell, assisted by Mrs Brooks, who has pre- pared prayer cards for each of the stones, used the shell to sprinkle the water on each of the stones (pictured right). Prayers were said at the final scallop shell

stone before the congregation returned to the church for wine and cheese.

Offices merge THE Cedars in Holborough Road, Snodland, the office of Lafarge Ce- ment, has been closed and is avail- able to let. Jonathan Toyn, senior estates manager for the company, now La- farge Tarmac, said: “It makes sense to move our teams into one location at Holborough House.”
