Tiger project in China to use Andritz wood handling systems


S


tora Enso is constructing a new mechanical pulp plant and board machine – its Tiger project – on a


greenfield site in Guangxi Province, China, with the wood handling line being supplied by Andritz. The raw material for the mill – which is scheduled to start up early in 2016 – will be forest-debarked plantation wood. Andritz will provide the main systems for wood intake and washing, chipping (with a horizontally fed HHQ chipper), chip storage and reclaiming, chip screening, chip conveying systems to the BCTMP mill, as well as bark and


fines handling. The design flow of the chipping line is 120 cubic metres of sub (solid under bark) per hour to enable 725 adt/d of BCTMP pulp production. The covered silo will be able to house 16,000 cubic metres of chips. In addition to the equipment and machinery, Andritz will provide erection supervision, training, and start-up services. The design capacity of the board machine, which will produce several grades from eucalyptus mechanical pulp, is 450,000 adt/a. Initial design capacity of the BCTMP plant is 725 adt/d.


Södra’s Värö pulp mill to become one of the world’s largest


Södra Cell’s mill at Värö, near Varberg in Sweden will become one of the biggest pine sulphate pulp operations in the world in an expansion project worth more than SEK 4 billion (US$603m). Around half of the process equipment being supplied by Valmet. Valmet will be supplying a new


continuous digester and upgrades to wood handling, a fibre line,


evaporation plant, soda recovery boiler, causticisation, flashdryer, drying machine and baling. Much of the equipment will be supplied by Valmet in Sweden: The digester and causticisation will be supplied by Karlstad; the fibre line, flashdryer and baling by Sundsvall; and evaporation and the soda recovery boiler by Gothenburg. The wood handling and pulp dryer


will be supplied by Valmet in Finland. “We have had a good relationship with Valmet in the past and feel confident that this project will be a success,” said Gunilla Saltin, president of Södra Cell. “We have worked closely


together with Valmet in planning the project and it gives us a good start. This investment increases


our pulp production, makes the mill more energy efficient and increases its bioenergy supply potential.”

the pulp and energy business at Valmet, added: “We are very pleased that Södra Cell trusted us with this significant order. It is a strong token of our technological leadership and competitiveness in the pulp technology market. Investments in pulp production are active at the moment and Valmet is strongly involved with many major on-going projects.”


Bleach plant rebuild for Portucel Soporcel


Portucel Soporcel is planning to upgrade its Cacia mill in Portugal to improve the quality and volume of its pulp production with equipment supplied by Valmet. “This order is a continuation of a long-lasting relationship between Portucel and Valmet. The new lime kiln will support


the increased demand for lime, as Cacia mill increases its pulp production,” says Stefan Mattsson, vice president of the Fiber Processing Business Unit at Valmet.


The equipment includes batch


cooking, screening, bleaching and a new lime kiln with a capacity of 110 metric tons per day. The


bleach plant rebuild includes a new TwinRoll press, which replaces two drum filters. The new lime kiln with flash dryer and electro static precipitator (ESP) will be able to burn both heavy fuel oil (HFO) and natural gas. The Portucel Soporcel group


is Portugal’s second largest exporter and operates paper and


pulp mills in Setúbal, Figueira da Foz and Cacia. The group is a leading European manufacturer of uncoated woodfree (UWF) printing and writing paper and Europe’s top producer of Bleached Eucalyptus Kraft Pulp. The Cacia pulp mill curretnly produces 285,000 tons a year of pulp.
