Will orange become the new white? The advantages of polysulfide cooking

With the success of its poly- sulfide

cooking installation at

one of the world’s most recog- nized pulp mills, ANDRITZ has added a new color to its palette. Polysulfide cooking liquor has a dis- tinctive orange color. The process increases yield for the pulp produc- er – and improves pulp properties

for papermakers. Polysulfide liquors are created by oxidizing the sodium sulfide in white liquor in a proven MOXY process. When added at the impregnation stage of

the cooking

process, the orange liquor oxidizes the end groups of

the hemicellulos-

es and slows down alkaline peeling reactions – resulting in higher yield.

More importantly, polysulfide cook- ing improves several pulp properties: beatability, tensile strength, stiffness, and internal bond strength. Contact us today at fiberline@andritz.com to discuss whether polysulfide cooking is right for your mill.
