Canadian kraft mill orders automatic pulp laboratory

Z

ellstoff Celgar, which supplies market kraft pulp from its mill at Castlegar in British

Columbia, Canada, has ordered an automatic pulp laboratory from Metso.

With the new equipment being

installed in July this year, the mill says it will be able to improve its pulp testing capabilities to better

meet its customer quality needs. “We were convinced by Metso’s

proven technology and ability to support us locally with their North American service teams,” says Scott Spencer, strategic development manager at Zellstoff Celgar. Metso will supply a Pulp Expert

Metso to supply first bleached kraft pulp mill in Belarus

The first bleached kraft pulp mill to be built in the Republic of Belarus is being supplied with a comprehensive package of process automation and valve technologies by Metso. The 400,000 ton-per-year mill is being constructed at Svetlogorsk by JSC Svetlogorsk Pulp & Board Plant. Metso’s technology will enable the mill to reach high efficiency, product quality and process stability, as well as gain savings in chemicals, steam and water consumption. The order was placed by China CAMC Engineering Co (CAMCE), a major engineering procurement construction (EPC) contractor responsible for the turnkey delivery of the plant. The company chose Metso as a supplier based on earlier good experiences with its leading technologies, proven

performance in demanding environments and critical applications, good results, along with value-adding services. The order includes Kappa Q analyzers, Metso Polarox5 residual sensors, several Metso Piston filtrate samplers for pH measurement, Metso SP and Metso Rotary consistency transmitters, as well as Metso NOVE samplers. Valve solutions include over 900 Neles automated valves of various types and sizes for both control and on-off applications. All the control valves will be equipped with ND 9000 series intelligent valve controllers, which ensure long-term reliability, reduce process variability and improve process efficiency. CAMCE is affiliated to China

brightness and high-definition fibre and shive as well as a proprietary Quality Assurance Tracking programme to maximise the use of the measurements. Zellstoff Celgar, part of Mercer

International Group, is one of the largest and most modern single line kraft pulp mills in North America. It produces approximately 520,000 ADMTs annually.

Smooth start-up of first MoveRoll Kicker

Pulp Paper & Logistics

Following two years of development work, Finnish manufacturer MoveRoll has assembled its first Kicker which has been started up at a paper mill at Kemi in Finland. Compact and said to be unique in design, the new Kicker features robust sliding rails that kick the roll horizontally onto the next conveying device. It is the first unit that can replace the stand-alone standard kicker and offers several benefits. First is safety: When rolls are about to be kicked and during the actual kicking process, the MoveRoll system flashes a warning light. Energy savings are also possible: Depending on the application, Kicker reduces the energy

consumption by up to 75 per cent compared with traditional kickers. Furthermore, easy installation and maintenance enables savings in installation and maintenance costs. The first project using the

Kicker at the mill was started by Mikko Rantanen, chief executive of MoveRoll. “Smooth start-up, understanding customer demands as well as learning more is so important with new innovations. So I feel my duty to be here, starting the first unit personally,” said Rantanen. MoveRoll Oy is a global supplier of high-quality paper roll handling equipment with a strong focus on innovation and involves Nordic paper mills in product development.
