Conventional Treatment
The current allopathic treatment of Lyme disease consists of 3-4 weeks dosage of 100 mg Doxyclycline twice daily. Amoxicillin is an alternative choice. Extended antibi- otic treatment for chronic Lyme is common. Issues with antibiotic treatment are: intake of dairy products, antacids, calcium supple- ments, iron containing foods or supplements, and laxatives containing magnesium which may decrease doxycycline’s effectiveness. Use of antibiotics has the double edge of killing off both the good bacteria that help us resist invading microbes as well as the “bad bugs”, such as borellia in Lyme. Our abil- ity to maintain a strong immune system is impaired with antibiotic use. With ticks in re- cord numbers, will people in Lyme infected areas be taking antibiotics continuously for each tick bite? If so, this will adversely affect the immune system, thus predisposing us to even greater prevalence of illness.
Boosting Your Immune System In addition to preventive steps to avoid
deer tick bites, the second most important step you can take is to keep your immune system strong with a healthy diet based primarily on organic, local vegetables, fruits, and proteins, adequate daily rest, low to no caffeine use, and lowered stress levels attained with a regular yoga & meditation
practice. The immune system is grown in the gut; so a daily Probiotic supplement is recommended (preferably one sold by a licensed healthcare provider because they are independently lab tested for potency). Eating foods such as kimchee and cultured vegetables also boost the immune system.
