“Before Choreo, it was a one-stop shop with one supplier to provide a one-size-fits-all service or solution in the telematics industry. They would provide anything from content to platform and enabling services in a very streamlined offering. This meant they were in control of the entire service chain,” said Leon Hong, chief operating officer for Airbiquity. “Creating Choreo opened up the value chain to all the other incumbent content suppliers out there.” Since companies like Yahoo! and Google have limited con- tent made specifically for the medium of infotainment, focusing

on creating their own platforms to support only their content doesn’t make sense, according to Hong. “That’s the reason why our platform provides that sort of conversion of the content,” he added. “If they can bring the content to our platform, we can take care of how the content goes to the car and open up the value chain for all the other players in the adjacent industries. It’s a win-win solution for all of us.”


Functionality Leaves Room for Future Device Compatibility Choreo’s cloud network is accessible through compatible head units in multiple ways. Access can be attained as easily as get- ting into a vehicle with a smartphone in hand. The smartphone is detected through Bluetooth by the cloud-ready head unit and automatically added to the system, according to Hong. Addition- ally, the phone can be connected through the traditional USB cable input. “When the driver gets into the car, the smartphone will actu- ally connect to the head unit, which will then take advantage of the smartphone connectivity by sending vehicle data to the cloud platform and that’s why the automaker can constantly keep in touch with the user and get all the driving data out of the vehicle,” Hong said. Newer vehicles are already set to include the cloud in their head units, starting this year. The system is designed
