Eye tests? Eye examina- tions? Why is a comprehen- sive ophthalmic examination different and why is it an essential part of looking after your eye health?
Most eye tests last about 20 minutes. Your Comprehen- sive ophthalmic examination at Buchanan Optometrists takes 1½ hours. Your sight is important, taking the time to discuss and assess it makes common sense.
We start by assessing your eyes with the most ad- vanced equipment available. Everything is non-invasive and very comfortable. Ini- tially we measure the length of your eyes, the curvature of the front of your eyes, the thickness of the front of your
eyes and the pressure of your eyes. The sensitivity of your retina (the light sensitive part at back of your eyes) is assessed to see if you have any less sensitive areas of vision. Next we scan the back of your eyes in 3D. You look into a lens at a small blue light, As you do this we scan the macula at the back of the eyes (the part of your eye that gives you sharp vision), we then take a larger 3D image of your retina, al- lowing us to see parts of the retina not normally visible. The thickness of your nerve eyes are assessed. This can show signs of glaucoma and neurological problems much earlier than normal, allowing more effective treatment. Several digital colour scans of your retina (giving much higher resolution images than a photo) are taken. The cornea and iris at the front of your eyes are scanned in 3D. eyes are tested using the lat- est computerised equipment, ensuring that you achieve the sharpest, crispest vision possible. We measure the pressure of your eyes with another very accurate in- strument called a Goldmann tonometer. Your results from all the tests are then assessed and explained to you. Be- cause you have plenty time you are never rushed. Any concerns or questions can be answered. Your prescription is then discussed with your dispensing optician.
