April 18-21 Easter weekend fun Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway Take a trip back in time on one of the steam locomotives leaving Sittingbourne Viaduct station for an hour-long round trip through the
varied scenery of this part of Kent. The trains will run hourly throughout the Easter weekend with an Easter egg hunt at Kemsley Down on Easter Sunday and Monday.
April 19 English Festival Riverside Country Park, Gillingham A perfect day out for all the family to celebrate St George’s Day. Animal lovers will be content in cuddle corner, or if it is something more active you are after, how about a donkey ride or watching the dog agility? Those more inclined to sit back and relax can lounge on the beach, listen to the live band and string quartet, take a stroll round the farmers market in the village square, play crazy golf and seaside games or visit the funfair. Create a souvenir to take home with you from the craft workshops where you can learn the art of candle making, printing and much more. There will be walkabout performers including St George and the dragon, Churchill and Queen Victoria. Celebrate all that is iconic and ironic about the English. Limited parking onsite so take advantage of the free park and ride service from Chatham Historic Dockyard. Service operates 10am-6pm. Or try the park and walk from Bloors Wharf (bottom of Bloors Lane).
April 20-21 Medway Festival of Steam and Transport The Historic Dockyard, Chatham This year’s event has an injection of even more music to complement the classic and vintage vehicles across the 80-acre site. Visitors will be treated to a variety of music on two main stages offering lively and toe tapping folk and blues music, or head for the Sixties and Rockabilly Stage flanked by vehicles from the 1960s; hot rods, trucks and American vehicles. St George’s day Celebrations Jubilee Square, Maidstone Folk Music will accompany a range of Morris dancing troupes. There will also be marquees and a stage with stalls and sideshows throughout the day.
