Chapel Down Winery Enjoy local wines and learn how they are made during a trip to the vineyard’s award-winning visitor facilities, situated in Small Hythe on the B2082, about three miles from Tenterden. The shop stocks a wide range of locally sourced food and drink, hampers can be made to order and wine-tasting is always available. There’s also a restaurant, herb garden and vineyard (seasonal) tours.


Biddenden Vineyards At nearby Biddenden is Kent’s oldest commercial vineyard producing award winning wines, ciders and juices.Tastings and guided tours are available.


Nelson and Lady Hamilton, was married to a vicar of the church and is buried in the churchyard. Novelist Jane Austen is also linked to Tenterden as several members of her family were buried there.


Opposite the church is Café Rouge,


Railway buffs will be fascinated by a visit to the famous Kent and Sussex Railway in Station Road, which offers the chance to travel back in time on an authentic steam train. The line was closed to passengers in 1954 and re- opened 20 years later. It runs through the beautiful Rother valley, ending close to National Trust-owned Bodiam Castle.


Standing guard over the town is the pinnacled tower of St Mildred’s Church, whose records date back to 1180. Horatia Nelson, daughter of Lord

Rare Breeds Centre, Woodchurch Set in 120 acres of beautiful Kentish countryside, the centre has lots to see and do for everyone. Attractions include friendly farm animals, woodland assault courses, play areas, an exotic butterfly tunnel and falconry displays.


The Mill Toy and Pedal Car Museum With exhibits dating from Victorian Times, visitors of all ages will enjoy a trip down memory lane and lunch and home-made cakes in the tea room. Situated six miles west of Tenterden, the museum has been presented with the Guinness World Records certificate for the largest collection of pedal- powered model vehicles on public display.

Retail retreat Tenterden is the perfect place to browse for something that little bit different and experience shopping as it used to be. The long High Street has a huge choice


of shops including branches of national chains such as Laura Ashley, East and Monsoon, as well as many independent retailers specialising in a wide range of items from flowers to fashions, and from fresh-baked bread to boots and


shoes. Family store Webbs is well worth a visit. It has an amazing stock of homeware and hardware and you can also bag a bargain at the market which is held on Fridays.


Food and drink Foodies are well catered for but the town’s many different eating places and wine enthusiasts can beat a track for the vineyards at Chapel Down and neighbouring Biddenden. There, you can see how wine is produced and sample a tasty tipple.


Tenterden has a great choice of eating places including the White Lion Hotel and the Woolpack, affectionately known as the Woolly. There are also plenty of independent restaurants, coffee shops and traditional tea rooms to cater for all tastes.


Nearby attractions The town is surrounded by some great family attractions such as the Rare Breeds Centre at Woodchurch and a wonderful collection of historic homes and gardens including Sissinghurst Castle and Smallhythe Place.
