Oh, what a Night....

As part of the social side of Rotary, the clubs in the District challenge each other to an evening of social fun and simple, but challenging games. We call these evenings “Gavel evenings”.

members aged between 14 and 18. The catering staff

On Thursday this concept was taken

to a new level when over thirty of the Club’s members were welcomed by the Interact Club at Queen Victoria School. The schools Club now has over 50

provided us all with an excellent meal after which we were split up into teams of four with at least one Rotary Club member in each team. The various challenges ranged from dominoes, darts, putting, quoits and, giant “Jenga”, on the physical side; to “Connect 4”, “Boggle” a fi endish “pub quiz” and a logo recognition quiz on the more “mental” side.

The teams moved round the various stations to complete their tasks and were kept under control and marked by the senior pupils. After about two hours the results were checked and Mary Fraser and her team emerged as the winners.

It was not only a very memorable evening, but a happy and rather noisy one! The pupils and their older team mates mixed eff ortlessly which was the real intention of the evening and there is every intention to make this an annual event.

Also, since the last edition of the “Wire”, Dunblane High School’s Samindi Gunasinghe, who won our Club’s “Young Chef” Competition, took part in the District Competition in Dundee, and came second out of ten contestants in a very high standard fi nal.
