When I was young I couldn’t wait to be eighteen. I’m sure you all remember the sheer injustice of being constantly told what to do. I’m not talking about being seventeen and having a midnight curfew either; I’m talking about the OLD days. Hard graft, 24-7 surveillance - serious bird. I’m talking about being eleven. I wasn’t interested in contraband at that age. Beer tasted hideous and girls smelled. No, the eleven- year old me had one goal: to watch RoboCop. I didn’t know about films at the time, or robots or cops for that matter, but that front cover told me everything I needed to know. Tere he was, Robo-fucking- cop! What really sealed the deal, however, was the little "18" at the bottom. Tis promised violence
and… stuff. Stuff I had yet to imagine, but was sure would be worth it. We had heard, from big brothers and friends with liberal parents, rumours of melting men, spikes in necks, shot cocks etc., but I didn’t know exactly what was in store until years later, when I finally got to watch the awesomeness of RoboCop. Te reason I’m telling you this is because this month heralds the new RoboCop reboot, and I know as much about it as I did
the first time around. In fact, I know only two things: 1) 11 year-old me and 34-year old me aren’t much different. 2) IT’S GOT ROBOCOP IN IT! Plus, it's on at the IMAX, so the awesomeness is even bigger than ever. Basically the reasons you should go see this are as obvious as a kid trying to sneak a RoboCop VHS out of Aylsham video
