he vision of the Fitness Division of Saskatche- wan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA)


is to encourage all residents of Saskatchewan to lead a healthy active lifestyle through fitness class- es led by SPRA Certified Fitness Leaders. The Fit- ness Division also promotes increased participa- tion in Fitness Leadership and Training, leading to personal fitness and physical, social, and emo- tional wellness. SPRA is recognized as the provin- cial certifing organization for fitness leaders in Saskatchewan and presents a full program of Fit- ness Leadership Certification courses throughout the year. To this end, the Fitness Division continu- ously responds to innovative and emerging trends in the fitness field and provides direction concern- ing the content and implementation policies and procedures for the Fitness Leadership Certifica- tion Program. Chief among its goals is to provide fitness programs of the highest standard of excel- lence. In addition to a Basic Theory course, certi- fication is awarded in specialty module areas ac- cording to need. On a national level, the Fitness Division is also represented on the National Fitness Leadership Alliance (NFLA), a collective collabora- tive partnership dedicated to developing, promot- ing and recognizing the use of national guidelines and standards for fitness leadership and certifica- tion, leading to improved quality and safety. Our Certification Program combines Pilates and In- tegrated Movement Therapies (IMT) to bridge so- matic studies, functional movement, rehabilitation and whole-body integrated movement in life and in sport. A systematic study of human movement, In- tegrated Movement Therapies (IMT) addresses the interface of functional and expressive movement, exploring the somatic experience and meaning of movement for each individual. With its roots in age- old traditions, IMT has evolved from Laban Move- ment Analysis, dance, yoga, tai chi, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, and current studies in scientific and clinical research into biomechanics, function, psy- chology, and injury rehabilitation. Danielle Belec- van Zeyl, Director of Second Wind, is a Certified Pilates Instructor through The Pilates Method Alli- ance, having originally trained with both Stott and Body Harmonics. A former professional dancer, Dan- ielle first found Pilates in London, England where she studied at the Alan Herdman studio and later in New York at Jean Claude West’s early studio. Dani- elle holds an Master of Arts in Movement Studies. She is a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Ana- lyst (CMA), I.S.M.E.T.A.-Registered Movement Ther- apist, yoga practitioner, Phoenix Rising Yoga Ther- apy practitioner, Certified Yoga Instructor through Toronto’s Downward Dog studio, founder of Inte- grated Movement Therapies (IMT) and creator of Second Wind’s Pilates / IMT Certification Program.
