he Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) is the principal body for physical activity,
health and fitness research and personal training in Canada. We are the GOLD STANDARD of health and fitness professionals dedicated to getting Canadi- ans active safely by providing the highest quality customized and specialized physical activity and fitness programs, guidance and advice based on extensive training and evidence-based research. CSEP has two levels of certification: CSEP Cer- tified Personal Trainer® (CSEP-CPT) and CSEP Certi- fied Exercise Physiologist® (CSEP-CEP).
A CSEP-CPT administers the CSEP-PATH, de-
velops and implements a tailored physical activ- ity, fitness and lifestyle plan to apparently healthy individuals or those with a stable health condi- tion who are able to exercise independently. The minimum requirement to become a CSEP-CPT is a two-year College diploma or two years of Univer- sity degree credits in the six Competency areas, CPR-C, First Aid, and candidates must successful- ly challenge the CSEP-CPT Theory and Practical Exams. A CSEP-CEP performs assessments, pre-
scribes conditioning exercise, as well as exercise supervision, counselling and healthy lifestyle ed- ucation in apparently healthy individuals and/or populations with medical conditions, function- al limitations or disabilities associated a variety of conditions. The minimum requirement to be- come a CSEP-CEP is a four-year University de- gree in exercise science or a related area that covers the 16 Core Competency areas, CPR-C, First Aid, and candidates must successfully chal- lenge the CSEP-CEP Theory and Practical Exams. CSEP Certified Members receive a nationally
