running smoothly. We now have a full front end staff of seven, eight part- time instructors, a manager and an accountant. We also found a great software sys-

tem (Mindbody Online) that keeps our all of our administration systems on track. Today, we take each year as a learn-

ing experience and are still constantly learning about business. We are a lo- cal mom and dad who own a success- ful club and have made a world of dif- ference in our members’ lives. We love what we do and take great pride in it. We no longer work seven days a week and almost always have Sundays off with our family. Four years ago, it was a struggle to

ask to for help some days. Today we’re paying it forward by helping other new club owners along the road to success.

My advice to new club owners is: 1. Hire an administrator right away.

You’ll save yourself money and many headaches in the long run. 2. Attend business 101 courses at a

local community college to broaden your knowledge. 3. Investigate financial assistance

through government small business loans. Interest rates are low, and you get a longer payback period. 4. Incorporate your company to

completely separate your business and personal assets. Keep very detailed books with your business and person- al assets clearly separate.

I WISH I’D KNOWN… “Being an awesome fitness professional isn't enough to open a club of your own.”
