Oh, December, you playful beast. I haven’t bandied the C-word around as much since I had the misfortune of catching Adrian Chiles - with his face like a deflating bouncy castle – give a post match analysis on ITV, the summation of which sounded like the oral equivalent of standing on a fresh turd. Except on this occasion, of course, the C-word is Christmas.
Christmas is the time where we need to get back to the simple things in life; spending time together, human contact, exchanging tokens of our affection. Of course, if you’ve gone all Bette Lynch on the Cinzano, you can achieve the full effect of those three at the office party; alcohol-fuelled mingling, misguided heavy petting and an exchanging of thrush-inducing emotional discoveries just screams “HAPPY HOLIDAYS!”
I’m tired of the cynicism; yes, it comes too early, is over commercialised and you will gain enough pounds to trigger the not-being-able-to-observe-your-own- minge threshold. But when it’s here, when it wades its big, red, velvet ass into town for real, is it too much to crack a smile? You’ll more than likely get a teeny bit of time off, perhaps a gift with your name on it, a plate full of enough food to swell your temples. Hell, even if your only present is the 64-pages of free reading material you’re holding now, you’re doing alright kiddo.
