ART & ABOUT

WELL I’LL BE DAMNED Te gigs at the UEA are testament to the calibre of artists that play our city. Te LCR’s recent change of name to Nick Rayns LCR is a more- than-grateful nod to the gentle giant’s commitment to the venue. Diversity has always been at the forefront for the LCR, and it’s diversity we’re getting this month as amongst others on the calendar, Flux Pavilion and Te Damned take to the stage. Dubstep and punk; Nick Rayns LCR always has, and always will, host it all. DJ Flux Pavilion arrives on 6 Dec. Known for high-energy performances around the globe, his anthems are ridiculously infectious. Expect to dance, mosh, and inevitably sweat as Flux Pavilion’s hit single ‘I Can’t Stop’ is sure to raise the roof… And swiftly onto some punk rock; gigging since the 70s, Te Damned are sure to give us a properly-unproper gig. Tey have not dipped in the quality of their performance, so they’ll bring hits that are 30 years old kicking and screaming into 2013. Te goth- punks play on 11 Dec, and there is a pair of tickets with your name on to be won! Let us know the name of the girl who broke Te Damned’s heart in their 1980s hit. Was it a) Eleanor, b) Eloise or c) Elvis? Email your answer to emma@outlineonline.co.uk with the subject: “I’LL BE DAMNED” by December 8th to be in with a chance of winning.

ROCK OUT, DAMNED SPOT. “Rock out, rock out, damned SPOT”; thus spaketh Lady Macbeth, because the maiden was one hell of a RAWK fan. Perhaps we have slightly bastardised Shakespeare there, but such is the magnitude of this event, that we felt it needed the weight of the Bard… Wolves in Wolves Clothing are proud to present the undisputed kings of Lager Rock, SPOT, who return for a special one-off reunion show at Te Waterfront on Dec 11th. Te band were a favourite on the local circuit and beyond, and have left a slack, gaping, bumhole in the industry since they called it a day. Lead singer Bub says, “We played many packed gigs at venues such as Fat Pauly’s and releasing CD collections of our many tunes.

WHY WOULDN’T YOU? Aaah Christmas, the time when it’s seasonable and absolutely compulsory to eat, drink and be merry. If Britain had a written constitution, this motto would surely be ingrained in it, highlighted with glitter pens. Te last two instructions come hand in hand, when mulled wine, sherry, baileys, champagne, bucks fizz and the rest become almost our daily repast. It’s absolutely fine and right and just… there’s just one caveat to all this drinking malarkey. It goes absolutely terribly with driving. As far as bad combos go, it ranks up there with Black Lace, Boris Johnson and his PR team, or the new chocolate Pringles. So it’s a simple question that Norfolk County Council are asking motorists this festive season – “Why wouldn't you...Drive sober? Belt up? Ignore it? Slow down?” By asking this simple question, the Tink! Norfolk partnership is inviting drivers to think about their behaviour on the county’s roads. Alec Byrne, Norfolk County Councillor and Chairman of the Norfolk Casualty Reduction Partnership Group, said: “Every driver in Norfolk can keep our roads safer by asking themselves this simple question each and every time they make a journey. Along with the immeasurable pain and suffering experienced by families who lose someone, the cost to the community of road traffic casualties is very high.” Research has established that in over 95% of incidents on the road the major cause was human error. It’s us, and us alone that can bring down that sobering statistic. For more info on the campaign, please visit: www.think.norfolk.gov.uk

In around 2000 we had a manager and record deal lined up, but it became obvious that the record company was making promises it couldn't keep and the band became disillusioned - the writing was on the wall. In 2006 I knew the party was over and sadly let SPOT finally die… Or did I?"

In September 2013, Erin Rockowitch got in contact and asked SPOT to do a secret set at Te Oval Rockhouse Reunion, which was being staged at Epic in Norwich. No one could believe the reception that SPOT received and they were welcomed back on stage like returning heroes.

Gav says, "Playing those 5 songs in front of 600+ people at Te Oval reunion was an awesome privilege and we had such a wicked time that it felt right to have a dedicated SPOT show for everyone that has missed us over the years.”
