Judy Diane Snow VanFossen, 59 of Green Cove Springs, FL was a


lifelong resident of Clay County and a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in the Clay County Fair. She was a veteran of the US Army stationed in Key West, a dispatcher for Flori- da Rock and worked as a phlebotomist for Memorial Hospital and Middleburg Family Medical before retiring as a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Max VanFossen, sons

Paul D. Gallagher July 30, 2013


Paul D. Gallagher, Florida International Univer- sity’s senior vice president emeritus, will be remembered as a long-time friend of the Miami- Dade Youth Fair. Mr. Gallagher, 68, served on The Fair’s board of directors from 1994 to 2005. Paul was born in West Hazelton, PA to a coal miner father and a mother who passed up a music scholarship to marry and raise a family of 8 children. As the fourth child to parents who


prized education, he earned a Ph.D in psychology before he was recruited to the newly founded FIU in 1971. Over 37 years he be- came one of the school’s legendary leaders. He is survived by his wife, retired FIU professor Jo Gallagher, and a daughter Jennifer Rau.


Carlene Lowrey Sparks November 8, 1926—June 22, 2013


Carlene passed away peacefully at her home in Ovideo, surrounded by her family. She led an exciting life alongside her hus- band, who formerly was the Executive Director of the Mid-South Fair in Memphis, TN, the Florida State Fair in Tampa, and the Georgia National Fair in Perry. She is survived by her husband of 68 years. T. Wilson Sparks, her son Don (Elaine) and daughter Tina (Donnie) McFarland. She


also leaves 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Carlene will be inurned at the Florida National Cemetery. Published in the Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN June 27, 2013


Bryan Jennings, Jr. October 18, 1921—July 1, 2013


Sherman Bryan Jennings, Patron Life Member of the Clay County Fair Association, and retired Lt. Col in the United States Air Force, serving during WWII and thee Korean War. Mr. Jennings later returned to Clay County to run the family busi- ness, San Lebrydo Lumber Co. He was a in- volved with the Orange Park Council and City Commissioner. He was active in the Orange Park Rotary Club and was Citizen of the Year 2009-10.


He was predeceased by his wife Martha. He is survived by four daughters, Terry (Kenneth) Hooks, Rebecca Pantelis, Bonnie Home, Jennifer (Darby) Brower. 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Holly Hill Memorial Park, Middleburg. The entire obituary can be found at www.findagrave.com


Olin L. Mott March 5, 1921—July 2, 2013

Mr. Mott turned his attention to the many charities he had funded or founded, a


literacy program that has swept through Hillsborough County schools, or the Florida State Fair Authority. William G. “Bill” Hoppert March 16, 1927—August 14, 2013


A long time Director and Past President of the Citrus County Fair Association, Bill had many nicknames: Hoppy for one and S.O.B. was another (Sweet Old Bill). Bill also served on many Federation Committees and had the best time helping Gayle with props for her memorable President’s parties. He was a fire


inspector for Citrus County, worked for the Bank of Inverness and was Santa Claus there for many years. He was active in the model railroad club and loved to sing Karaoke. He was a Shrine clown for many years, active in local parades and fund raisers for crippled chil- dren. He was predeceased by his wife Jackie exactly 10 years ago. He is survived by twin sons Jerry and Larry, daughter Debra. Inurn- ment at the Florida National Cemetery.


Sandra K. Vanden September 1, 2013


Sandra K. Vanden, a longtime board member of the Miami-Dade Youth Fair, died after a coura- geous battle against cancer. Ms Vanden, who was a chairman emeritus, served as chairman of the board in 2006-07. She arrived in Miami from Ohio in 1962 and jumped into volunteering for nonprofit endeavors that focused on youth and family. A Youth Fair board member since


1993, she served on three committees—Scholarship, Evaluation, and Safety & Accident Prevention—at the time of her death. In other areas of her life, Ms Vanden was a co-founder of CSSI, a


coalition of churches supporting senior independence. She also re- ceived the honor of “Volunteer of the Year” by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Sandy will be remembered for affecting count- less lives and will be greatly missed.
