Oxitec
Venture capital backed among others by Oxford Capital Partners. Oxitec is a British biotech company pioneering a better approach to tackling dengue fever and damaging agricultural pests. Dengue is a growing global problem. Spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, it infects between 50 and 100 million people annually and reported cases have increased 30-fold in the past 50 years. Conventional methods of mosquito population control, such as pesticide spraying and fogging, have failed to stop the spread. In agriculture, pests such as olive fly, pink bollworm and medfly cause widespread damage to crops and significant financial loss. Oxitec has used advanced genetics to develop a new solution to controlling populations of the dengue mosquito and other harmful insects in a way that is sustainable, environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

West Berkshire Brewery
West Berkshire Brewery is known for its award-winning range of traditional cask ales and bottled beers having won more than 30 awards since the Brewery first started in 1995. These award-winning products can be found at selected Waitrose and Fortnum & Mason stores, and public houses across the South. As well as producing quality beers supplied with warm customer service, it has a clear ethos concerning its impact on the environment and it strives to make the business as sustainable as possible; meaning that most of the ingredients are sourced locally and spent grains are taken by a local farmer as animal feed. The Brewery also cultivates a reed bed drainage system which takes the waste water from the Brewery and filters it, returning the clean water to the ground; in the process creating a haven for wildlife and stimulating the growth of the plants in the wildflower meadow that the Brewery has planted around the reed bed to support the insect and bird life.
