30 SME 100 list revealed
Top SMEs from across the Thames Valley are listed in the pages ahead – and this year we have included another 50 companies that are “bubbling up”. The SME 100, now in its third year, is an evolving list with companies that break through the £10 million-plus turnover barrier moving up to our Thames Valley 250 list, while other smaller businesses enter the list for the first time
To capture the fast growth of many of these SMEs we have included, for the first time, the Next 50 – ranged 101 to 150 – highlighting businesses that are on the up.
And we have also included a “Ones to Watch” group of smaller companies that have been highlighted by our sponsors’ panel as being of particular interest. We will watch the path of these businesses in the year ahead.
The SME 100 reflects the variety of small and medium-sized enterprises that exist across the region.
The initiative is supported by Santander
bank; Haines Watts chartered accountants and business advisers; VitalSix, the business experts who support business growth; and Thames Valley law firm Field Seymour Parkes.
Ranked by sales, the SME 100 includes only private independent businesses. Public companies and foreign-owned enterprises are excluded.
David Murray, publisher of The Business Magazine, said: “This is the third year of the SME 100 – a grouping that collectively accounts for £870m turnover, and is a significant contributor to the economy of the South.”
At the top of the SME 100 are three companies with £10m turnover – Williams Performance Tenders of Berinsfield, Airdri of Eynsham, and Thomas International of Marlow.
Williams Performance Tenders was founded as Williams Marine in 1995 by brothers Mathew and John Hornsby. In 2004 business partner Roy Parker joined the team and Williams Performance Tenders was founded. The company now employs 38 staff and operates in 24 European locations, plus key markets such as Hong Kong, Dubai and Russia.
Airdri is a global manufacturer of warm- air hand dryers. The company, based at Eynsham, was founded in 1974 and has been consistently profitable, employing some 50 people. Overseas sales account for 50% of turnover.
