Edmunds Lounge Bar
If anyone needed proof of the recent revival of the city centre of Birmingham as a great place for a night out, they need look no further that Edmunds Lounge Bar.
“ Edmunds has achieved that very
rare trick – becoming both a favourite
haunt of the business community during the working day, then satisfying the
ever changing needs of evening revellers, both drinkers and
diners, and now even music lovers. ”
Standing imposingly at the corner of Newhall Street and Edmund Street at the very heart of the business quarter of the city, Edmunds has achieved that very rare trick – becoming both a favourite haunt of the business community during the working day, then satisfying the ever changing needs of evening revellers, both drinkers and diners, and now even music lovers.
The contrast isn’t as stark as you might think. The simple, sophisticated interior, with its curvy leather seats and cosy corners is enough to tempt you inside at any time of day. But its the food upon which Edmunds first built its reputation - a great range of quality, locally sourced, and sometimes quirky offerings. Its current menu encompasses everything from sandwiches (who can resist a fish finger bap at lunchtime) and speciality burgers (the kangaroo burger being a firm favourite with those in the know), to traditional pub favourites such as the best handmade pies you can get, top quality steaks and superb sausages and mash. Popular with both the lunchtime office crowd and the evening drinkers is the range of homemade stonebaked pizzas. It really is a menu that suits all tastes, with food served all day too.
Indeed Edmunds is keen to boast of the impressive provenance of its range of food. Award-winning speciality sausages direct from Lashfords Butchers of Solihull are a good example of local sourcing, as is the range of pies direct from local supplier Edward Moon Pies.
The quality of food is reflected in the standards and care with which it is served – Edmunds is a worthy recipient of a top notch five star hygiene rating, something with which many other better known establishments often struggle to compete.
Equally Edmunds is recognised for its drinks, being awarded Cask Marque recognition for the consistent quality and choice of its traditional cask ale offering. But it is much more that an ale bar – a range of international lagers, bottled beers and impressive wine list are equally tempting.
For larger groups there is also a private room that can be reserved for those special events, or parties. Ideal if you’re planning your office party and looking for a central location.

With free entry this is certainly worth a visit, as the acts are picked from the very best performers both locally and nationally, showcasing an incredible range of talent, with live performances to remember. The intimacy of the venue certainly adds to the experience, the performers are really able to engage with the audience and create an atmosphere that is captivating.
