Te European Union (EU) has

many multi and unilateral trade agreements with countries such as Switzerland, Mexico and since 1 July 2011 with South Korea. Customs authorities estimate that 15 per cent of all trade between South-Korea and the EU has profited from the agreement. It is estimated that in the future trade

between the partners will increase by 40 per cent. Automating processes is key to

obtaining maximum return on trade agreements and a GTM system can fulfill this role. Tese systems support a company in creating best practices in free trade. Te top five steps include:

» Create a supplier management programme. Tis starts with selecting a communication channel for all contacts with suppliers. Email is best suited for this purpose. Every supplier needs to know the country of origin of each part and state which agreement applies. It is necessary to capture a supplier’s

product information in good time. In general, the purchasing party will place a request and the supplier will answer. A portal can simplify this. » Create insight in purchasing data. Te origin of a part determines which trade agreement applies. With a GTM solution, a clear picture of all purchasing data can be made with information on suppliers, the part and the country of origin. »Manage supplier communications based on an automated purchasing process. With a GTM solution campaigns can be created to ask for quotes from a large group of suppliers in one go. » Automate the qualification

process. A GTM solution enables matching each item with a Bill of Material. Such a solution can also load information on origin and detailed parts information and in this way high volumes can be supported optimally. » Enhance the trade agreements portfolio. With a new GTM system, new trade agreements are easily added. In general, it is only necessary to enter new rules of origin.
